"Fun Things To Do In San Diego – Hike, Bike and Kayak"

Take a ride around San Diego on a Bike Tour
"Hike Bike Kayak, located in La Jolla California, is one of many tour guide companies that offer multiple outdoor tours on land and sea in the La Jolla area.
The company offers hiking, biking and kayak tours and also offer surf lessons and rent equipment to those who want to embark on their own adventure.
Each touring option runs about two hours in length and groups are smaller than most other touring companies like it in that area.
"If you are looking for a more personal and less touristy experience, Hike Bike Kayak will give you what you are looking for. With the smaller groups and personal and friendly tour guides, you feel as though your old friend is taking you on a new adventure."
I would recommend the plunge bike tour for adults, while the sea cave kayak tour is perfect for families, couples or a group of friends. The sea cave kayak tour is great for beginner kayakers; I would not recommend it to someone who is an experienced kayaker looking for an extreme experience but rather for someone looking for a lighter paddling adventure. For the more extreme kayaker, you can still rent equipment from their store.

Learn to Surf the Waves!
Surrounding the Hike Bike Kayak location are a handful of wonderful restaurants and shops including the Cheese Shop, which sells the best no-flour oatmeal cookies I have ever tasted.
You can spend all morning biking down Mt. Soledad and stopping by beautiful beaches, or kayaking through caves and paddling past baby seals. Afterwards, you can stop for a wonderful bite to eat.
Both my bike and kayak tour guides were wonderful. Not only did they provide a fun and safe touring experience, but they also educated me on the local wildlife and history of the land and people who lived there.  From seeing and learning about Dr. Seuss and where he drew his inspiration to paddling past a pod of dolphins, the experience was one to remember."

Full day of fun
5 of 5 starsReviewed March 23, 2014 NEW
My husband and I did the full day hike, bike and kayak package and had a great time! First, you don't have to be in top condition to be able to do all three in the same day, although it would certainly help. We started with the bike ride. They take you and the bikes by shuttle van to the top of Mt. Soledad. Before the ride starts, you get an amazing view of the entire San Diego area, as well as a full explanation of the area's geography. From there, you descend and pedal through the back streets of La Jolla, stopping off to see sea lions and other local wildlife. We then had a lunch break before starting our kayak tour. You will first learn how to actually operate the kayak, then you set out down the coast. The day we went we were actually able to enter the caves, but it does depend on surf conditions. Our guide also pointed out various fish, types of seaweed, etc. Finally, we had a guided hike in Torrey Pines State Park where we learned more about the local ecosystem and took in some terrific views. Our guide for the bikes and hike was the owner, David. Our guide on the kayaks was Amanda. Both were knowledgeable and very helpful. All in all, we had fun, learned about the area & its environment and got a lot of exercise!

Harbor Seal Pup Season!

It's slightly earlier this year than expected, but harbor seal pupping season has begun! The seals nurse their pups and haul out on these out coves, such as Children's Pool, seen here, during late Winter into Spring. Hauling out is crucial not only for nursing pups, but for resting, molting, and maintaining a healthy immune system and metabolism. This is one great experience you can capture on our Plunge Bike Tour, as well as our Coastal Bike Tour

Another perk of the Plunge Bike Tour and Coastal Bike Tour is a nice walk out on the La Jolla Cove sea wall. Here is an aerial view photograph of Children's Pool and a broader view of the sea wall enclosing it.

To finish off the Plunge Bike Tour and Coastal Bike Tours at la Jolla Cove, we stop at the cave store and take a trip down into one of the famous sea caves, Sunny Jim.

For the full tours including all the breathtaking views, cool information, and fun memorable experience of La Jolla, book a Plunge Bike or Coastal Bike tour with us at Hike Bike Kayak!

Stay With Hike Bike Kayak!

Get away from it all and have some fun while doing it by booking our
Hike Bike Kayak Sports Vacation Rental!!

The Vacation Rental is located just upstairs behind our Shop.

Nestled above our retail space in the quaint La Jolla Shores neighborhood, this upstairs unit is a two minute walk from San Diego's most beautiful and family friendly beaches, La Jolla Shores.
The unit is upstairs from Hike Bike Kayak and Menehune Surf School, who generously includes free equipment rentals for guests of this unit including bikes, kayaks, boogie boards, snorkels, foam surf boards, paddle boards and wetsuits. They also include 25% off guided tours and lessons for guests of this unit.
The unit is a one bed, one bath with sleeper couch. Perfect for a couple or young family.
La Jolla Shores is a mile long pristine beach and the neighborhood is much quieter, easier to park, and more relaxing than La Jolla Village. However, La Jolla Village and La Jolla Cove are still a five minute car ride, fifteen minute bike ride (for adults), or twenty minute walk. While La Jolla Shores has such famous restaurants as Piatti's, Osteria Romantica, and the five-star Marine Room, the shopping, restaurants, bars, and art galleries are still very accessible from this location.
From La Jolla Shores, depending on the season, you can relax on the beach in the sun, kayak the La Jolla Sea Caves, snorkel with the famous (and completely harmless) leopard sharks, kayak with gray whales, surf gentle waves, boogie board and bike around the beautiful coast. All with equipment or instruction from Hike Bike Kayak and Menehune Surf School.

Rare Visitors Spotted at the La Jolla Children's Pool!!

Looking out over La Jolla Cove on our La Jolla Plunge Bike Tour, we saw a pair of one-year-old elephant seals relaxing on the beach of the children's pool. This is a rare sighting for the area, because these massive pinnipeds prefer to frequent the offshore islands of Baja and Southern California, rather than the North American mainland.

Also spotted off children's pool were a small pod of gray whales, all from our bikes!
The gray whales were diving and spouting, possibly feeding in the kelp forrest.

We've seen whales from our hikes, our BIKES, and our kayaks! All in the past few weeks!!
Despite the colder climate in other parts of the country, December is a great time of year to take a tour with us because the sun is shining 99% of the time here in La Jolla Shores!

At Hike Bike Kayak, we are so excited that the whale migrations are picking up, even higher numbers than last year!!
